Info about Bahrain?

Hi,

We are looking at taking orders to Bahrain and I was hoping to get some feedback about living there. I've searched all over the internet and have found about 5 reviews that all say it is awesome but I was just looking for a little bit more feedback. Has anybody lived there? Pros? Cons? Etc.
We have two small children (3 months and 18 months). Thanks for your help!

I don't know much about it but my husband just went over there and we are considering joining him over there. We have 3 girls ages 15, 8 and 2. He says that it is an experience that we shouldn't miss. You live out in town, shop in town, etc. so it really gives you the opportunity to experience the culture. Like I said, I don't know anything about living there as a spouse and with children but if you have questions, I could get his perspective/opinion on it! PM me if you have any questions. If you find out anything I would love to have the info so I can get an idea of the experience as well.

My DH is there, I'd be happy to pass along any specific questions you have. The only complaint he's really had so far is the heat but I think its getting better!

I've been in Bahrain, my dad was stationed there not long ago . The base is small. We did all the shopping off base. Every morning they have this little market downtown... very cool. The malls are great .
It never got cold lol(atleast that year i was there)... but it got SUPER hot at the end of April. The culture is very interesting.
I don't know about being there as a spouse with kids or anything like that because it was my dad, my mom and me...

I don't know if this is still the case, but I've known families that were stationed there in the late 90's and they said that coupled with COLA, the cost of living, and BAH and all of that, that people live like kings there. A lot of military families were making so much that they were able to afford maids and nannies! (mostly due to the fact that it was so cheap to hire these people) But everyone I've ever known has LOVED it there!

I hear it's still pretty much that way. And one guy my dh works with came from there recently and he said depending on the rate some get Assignment Incentive Pay (AIP) up to $1000 a month. My dh gets $450 AIP here in Korea.
