Help with No Fee passports and SOFA Visa - OCONUS (Over Seas)

Hi, I'm Umanga and my husband just got stationed to Vilseck, Germany. I am not a US citizen and that seems to create problems everywhere I go

either way, i went to the german consulate here in boston, thats where i am at the moment and the man i spoke to told me there told me that i needed a SOFA stamp on my home country's passport which is Nepal. I tried to do some research but didn't really find much. Do I apply for that in Boston or in Germany? Also, where do I apply for a No Fee passport? I don't live on post. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I don't really know about the SOFA visa, but I had to apply for my no-fees passport on base in the passport office, which was in MPF here. They give you the proper paperwork and you fill it out online. It's also where I got my visa, so maybe they can offer you more information there. Do you live close to a base at all?

Since you are not an American citizen, you can't get a no-fee passport. You will travel on your "regular" nepal passport and you will get a SOFA stamp once you are in Germany.
I am German and I travel with my German passport, even now that we are PCSing back to Germany.

You should get the SOFA stamp from the military installation once you arrive in Germany. HTH!

thanks so much. so, do i get the stamp at the airport in germany? or on post in germany? i know you said the military installation , i just wanted to make sure. i'm happy that you get to go back home again. don't know when thats going to happen to me. lol! i haven't been home for 3 years. i was hoping to go home next year but lets see. thanks so much once again!

well, there is an air force base about 45 minutes from here. i should probably call and find out anyway. thanks!
