No Later Then Date
When did you guys get that? We got our statement we are moving to Ramstein, but got our no later date?
Also, do you book your own flight? We are taking leave in route so we have to get flight information for that also. For those of you with pets, how hard was it to find a place? We have two fixed cats. Last one for now, did you purchase a vehicle over there? How does the inspection thing work? How hard was it to purchase one under German law? Thanks, Kris

We have always driven to our next duty station. Never flew. I guess this is another thing I have to wait for.
I hate this much time out. We still have 4 months. Nothing can get done for another 2. It is just wait...wait...wait. Hate it. Sorry to whine.

The thing with leave en route-if the travel is cheaper from your duty station, than from where you are taking leave, you may have to go back to your duty station to travel. You can put on the travel request the airport you'd LIKE to leave from, but that is no guarantee, that's what they told us when we put in our travel request for this PCS. We have never had a problem getting into a different airport than our duty station, but I thought I'd warn you.

) SATO took care of travel arrangements, i would speak with them about leave in route. We're in (off) base housing so pets were not a problem for us. most people we know that live on the economy with cats have not had any issues with their landlords. We shipped one vehicle and purchased another here. Inspection is done on base you need proof of ownership, temp plates & insurance and they have a check list they go through (lights, tires, brakes etc) if you pass you go get permanent plates/fuel card - if you fail you have a certain amount of time to get it fixed and re-inspected. |

The Air Force pretty much sucks when it comes to overseas moves because there is SO little you can do without your hard copy of the orders and you get those at the last minute. We knew we were going to Germany six months before hand but didn't book our flight, ship our household goods, ship our car, etc until TWO WEEKS before we left because of the orders issue. It was terrible. It was just a waiting game. I don't know when we got the RNLT date, but basically it meant nothing without the hard copy of the orders. The flight is booked by the travel office, you don't do it yourself. We have two fixed cats also. The listings from housing will say whether or not pets are allowed, but most places that say no you can talk to the landlord because Germans consider pets to be dogs, not cats. Our place does not allow dogs but our landlord approved our cats. Germany is incredibly dog friendly so many places will allow pets. You won't have too much of a problem finding a place to allow animals. We did not purchase a vehicle here. We shipped ours over, but it's a German made car, a VW. If you have a newer model, I think within the last year or two, you don't even have to go through the inspection when you first get here. You can just get your plates. That's what we did. We won't have to go through the inspection until this next summer and we'll have been here for two years by then. I'm really not sure what all they check. Check out kaiserslauternamerican.com if you haven't already for the classifieds for homes and cars. |

I want to know when they are coming for our stuff. How does it work getting the stuff we have requested early. Will it be there when we get there? Is it 700 lbs that we take on the plane? It is getting closer and I'm starting to stress because of the leave in route. You are right. AF wise it sucks. Sorry I'm whinny. I wish DH could answer these but he doesn't know squat.

hmm... We got ours (the RNTLD) just a few weeks after he was told he'd be going overseas. Our date is March 31st.
Also, I'm pretty sure what he did was go down to the travel office and make a request for me and him for two plane tickets for March 18th... he did this without having orders, and even if he did have orders, I wouldn't be on them yet because I'm still going through the screening process Good luck, hope this is correct info!!!
