We chose Hawaii for our next duty station - OCONUS (Over Seas)

We should know next month if dh gets them. They are for the USS Chafee which is a destroyer and that is what dh knows and what he really wanted plus we chose Hawaii for my job, the main offices for the Pacific rim are in Hawaii and I have a better chance (but not a guarantee) of working full time there, I am just part time now. Also, we wouldn't have such a huge pay cut moving from Korea to Hawaii, COLA is more in HI than Korea and even though dh would lose AIP he would gain sea pay which I am not sure how much it is these days, he is getting $450/mo in AIP now.

I have never been to HI, not even for a layover or anything. I hope my boys will like it, they are ready to leave Korea.

Very Very Nice!!! CHAFEE is a good ship that is getting better. They are gone a lot but the crew is pretty decent.

Ohhh nice...i hope you get Hawaii..
we are moving to Korea and looking forward to that..we hope the next duty station will be either hawaii or germany..but we will see.

We love Hawaii, so much so we're going back (finally!) next week! I hope you get the orders you want. My DH is hoping to go to the Chafee next, after the ship we're going to.

Oh really. Maybe they need a chief like my dh to whoop some asses.

The ship can't be any worse than working in a joint unit on an army post... the army is just different and dh can't wait to get back to the boat. Not trying to offend army, it's very different from being on a navy base.

We lived in Hawaii for 12 years and loved every second of it. You can save a lot of money there....we did!!

I am just glad we are no longer there for a schooling issue...the public schools are getting worse there..and they were bad to begin with.

But Hawaii is fanulous!

Yeah, we are very aware of the school situation so it does worry me but with me working we can probably afford a private school. Also, someone who spent 8 years in Hawaii and is here in Korea now told me that Halsey Terrace was near good schools so maybe the boys will be able to go there, we're thinking about going to Halsey Terrace to live, depends on the wait list of course.

I think if you are in elementary school situations you would be okay, but we had a kid who was going to be in high school and we just needed to get out of there.....sheesh sending him to a private high school would have been as much as college!!
