Italy {Passports, visas, cars, etc..}
I was reading somewhere here about the non fee passport you can get on base
Is this a normal passport or is it strictly only to move there and that's it? Can we use it to travel around? What about Visas? Driver License? Do we still have to renew our registration to our cars like we do here? If we do, do we renew with the same state the car's tags are from? Maybe that doesn't make sense to anyone else but me

The no-fee passport is only to be used in conjunction with orders, you'll need a separate tourists passport to travel for leisure. When you do travel, you need to take both because the no-fee will have the visa to re-enter the country. I do believe Europe is a bit different but I am going by how it is here in Asia. It's best to have both passports, though.
The visa you need will come with the no-fee. No sure about the cars, we sold ours and bought a hooptie here and just recently bought a brand new car in August. |

Now some people on here have said you can just have your tourist passport with the visa and not worry about the no-fee for living there but that can be tricky. My husband's orders clearly stated that no-fee passports were required so we had to get them but again this is Asia, we're in Korea. We're hoping for Italy next! I am hoping those orders to Gaeta are still available today because my husband is finally in his 9 month window!
Also this is what it says in my no-fee pp.

You get your no-fee, then it's sent off for your visa, to Miami. Mine took a week. You only get the visa once. When you arrive in IT you get a permit that allows you to keep coming back. In 4 years they have asked to see it once
![]() You register your car here in the EU. First car has no fees, second vehicle pays road taxes. In Indoc you get your IT driver's license translation. Very simple quiz on road signs.

Yeah, you register vehicles in Italy, so I'm afraid it is a waste. Maybe you can check with the state of FL and they can refund it for military with orders? I dunno. Space A... sometimes you hop military planes, and there is also a rotator every 2 weeks that goes back and forth to Norfolk. It's a regular passenger plane, and costs about $25 a person. You can fly with a letter from your command that says you are a sponsored dependent. You can get an Emergency Morale Leave form once a year which bumps you up a priority category. You are a higher category if your hub flies with you. Some times of the year are easier to get out. Christmas and summers are harder to get out... basically whenever kids are out of school. Anything more I can explain about it?
