Ah the drama of being an Aussie!

Ok so now that im married- i have immigration to go through.....

Ahhhhh.. here is the problem.

Giovanni is due to ETS in February next year. My immigration appointment will be in late Feb, early March. Sounds perfect right? Wrong!

On the day of the immigration appointment- i have to show that Giovanni can support me by having written proof that he HAS made $16,000 that year in the same job that he is in at the time of the appointment.

Hmm he has obviously made more then 16 k. But because of his leaving the Army only days to a week before- he won't have a job meaning he can't prove he can support me.

So that'd mean no greencard.

Lol- so we have the option of re-enlisting. And well Giovanni is tired of the army, he is tired of being deployed and tired of everything that goes on in the army. So he reallllllly wants to get out.

He has been offered a job in Kuwait- as a contractor with the US and he can earn like $75-90 k in his first year. Then it'll jump up to about $150 k the next year. And if i had immigration- I could come too and live there in the housing. They supply everything. Cars, housing, schooling, leave time, medical- everything. However- if he does that- once again, i won't be able to get through immigration- cos there is no way he would make $16 k in a week.

And that is also not a set thing, just because he has been offered it dosn't mean the position will be there when he ETSes.

So basically- we are kinda screwed lol. If he re-enlists, there is a possibility he will get deployed for yet another 12 months..within the next year. If he dosn't re-enlist- we won't be together anyways.

I really dunno what to do. Giovanni is hoping that he will be able to get Ft. Irwin- and if he can get that then he will re-enlist.

I dunno- i just wish things were easier. I've already been away from him for 9 months. And by November when he gets out of this deployment it'll be 12. I don't wanna be away from him for another year to 3 years.

Anyone gone through immigration- or got any advice that may help?

Btw- with a good attourney the process only takes 5 months. However if i get knocked back (eg. we go through the process and he dosn't have a job by the time my appointment happens).. i will be penalised and may not be able to enter the US for up to 5-7 years.

I'm going through the immigration process too - it's a nightmare! Aaron's also out in Feb but he's decided to reenlist. I've emailed him for advice - hopefully he'll get back to me soon.

Can't he do just an extention instead of a re-enlistment? I don't know much about them if they have specific amounts of time or anything but maybe he could look into it.

Yeah, that's an option we looked into - I don't know if it's different for the army but with the navy it lasts another year.

can't he switch from one branch to another? I know in the navy you can go blue to green (navy to army) so why not the other way around?
