    Hi Amber:

I live on Bangor Base, Silverdale, so you will be 5 hours away, I have not been that way as of yet. But if you like go here:

    City of Spokane Official Website

There is a lot of Information there, so you can take a peak and be well informed.

All in all I arrived here from Puerto Rico, and before that we were stationed in Pearl Harbor Hawaii, so WA for me was a drastic change coming from 2 Islands...where there is Sun.

This year WA had an amazing Hot Summer on this area so I was happy, but it's mostly cold and cloudy. I have fallen in love with the seasons though, that is something I was not used too,

    And I love that now.

Hi! We are in the same boat, pcsing in april or may. The military homefront site has a lot of good info about the base, you can also order a relocation guide from the spokane visitor site. good luck!

All I know about Spokane is... It is Spo-Kanne, not Spo-Kane...
DB's hometown is about 30 min from Spokane across the state border in Idaho... and he got really offended when I accidentally pronounciated it like spo-kane... oh boy. haha!

Lived here my whole life.. What do you want to know?

If you are feeling frightened about what comes next, don't be. Embrace the uncertainty. Allow it to lead you places. Be brave as it challenges you to exercise both your heart and your mind as you create your own path towards happiness, don't waste time with regret. Spin wildly into your next action. Enjoy the present, each moment, as it comes; because you'll never get another one quite like it. And if you should ever look up and find yourself lost, simply take a breath and start over. Retrace your steps and go back to the purest place in your heart where your hope lives. You'll find your way again.

Weather during the summer will get into (and stay in) the 90's for weeks on end. During the winter you can expect tons of snow and freezing (-22) weather. If you enjoy winter sports, there is plenty to do, Mt. Spokane, 49 degree's north etc... During the summer you can take advantage of the rivers or lakes or head on over to Silverwood Theme Park. The malls are not huge, but not bad either, they have most of the basics. There is loads of great restaurants around town (Milfords if you are a seafood fan). During the summer there is a festival called pig out in the park in which many local restaurants sell food down in Riverfront park, there is also live bands playing throughout the festival. For one weekend a year they close most of the streets downtown and play a HUGE 3 on 3 basketball tournament which is a blast to not only play in but to go and watch. In the spring Bloomsday (the larges timed road race) is a big draw. The civilian hospitals there are good for the most part and there are of course plenty of specialists in the area if they are needed for any reason. You won't find an Ikea or a Trader Joes there, the town is just too small to really support an Ikea. If you are a fan of natural foods there is a great market up on the South Hill called Huckleberrys. For a fun breakfast morning head over to Market St. for a meal at Knights Diner, served up in an old train car. In Airway Heights (where Fairchild is) there is a decent sized Casino, there is also one outside of Coeur D' Alene, one on the Columbia River, etc... On the 4th of July head on out to Two Rivers Casino and rent a boat and sit just off the casino, there is no better place to watch fireworks, there are so many people that you can almost walk across the river without getting wet, just hop from boat to boat . If you happen to need to fly Space A, Fairchild is a great base to fly out of, I flew from there to Hawaii and got to watch them refuel (i even got to go down in the pod underneath the plane to watch them do it).
I don't know anything about base housing (my hubby is a navy boy), I'm sure someone else on the board can fill in that info. But if you have anymore questions i'll be more than happy to answer them.

The renovated base housing is pretty nice, the base is GREAT! Airway Hieghts is pretty ok.. I prefer to live either very north or very south, lol.

The weather there is Not like what you will be used to coming from Ill. Its a very VERY dry heat. It takes awhile to get used too ( i recommend vasiline in your nose if you get bloody noses). But you don't sweat as much as you do in humid heat.. LOL
The winters are not that bad... you get more snow, but its not as cold (I am not sure about Ill exactly, but I just did 5 yrs in Nebraska). There are a ton of things to do there. He will be downtown, and I personally don't recommend any areas down there to live.
