Has anyone had their D-whatever stationed to Whidbey Island NAS?

Anything I should know about the area?

Its one of the options they offered us, want to make sure its not Virginia all over again.

Whidbey is nice, we lived there on and off for 6 years. It's isolated and small but if you like the out doors and what not it's not bad. In the review section there are some reviews for it. I'll get the link for you.

I hear it's awful. Knowing you and how you roll, you'd probably kill yourself.

Ditto that. I've had a few friends there that absolutely hated it.

On the plus side, you will have some of the best snow you could ask for. Baker, Whistler is a few hours north of Baker, lots of back country all over the state...

From my end of the spectrum its actually exactly what I want.
    - Three hours from Whistler.
    - I can live/work outside of Seattle, and the wife can geo-batch it there during the week.
    - I'm back on the east coast
    - Really good job offer

My big thing with Virginia is that the Norfolk area was just dirty, depressing, run down and not a lot of fun to live in. Between the tunnels and the nor-easters, it was a tough place to get around.

However, good outside life, rain and from what I hear a pretty kick ass Skipper, all make this idea pretty appealing.

Downside is that its a deployable squadron. That's going to suck.

People like me don't kill themselves, we find the root of our problems and kick the hell out of them.
