Best airport to fly into DC?

    Advertisements
I have to book my own flight for an upcoming conference and I don't know which airport would be best?
    My options:
    Washington Dulles
    Baltimore Washington
    Ronald Reagan National

The conference is right downtown near Dupont Circle but my hotel is southwest of there right near George Washington University.

    Any advice?

For where your conference will be Reagan. You won't even need a car, can hop on metro from airport to both DuPont and GWU.

Dulles and BWI are both about 35-40 miles, and an hour drive from DC, you will need either a rental car, or large cab fair to get to/from both of those.

If money if of no concern for the flight, for sure choose DCA (Regan).

Completely support going into Reagan and taking the Metro. I love DC's Metro and would never do anything else!

I know others who use the outer airports . . . it just seems like a long-ass haul for the price.

So jealous. I miss living there. Choose Reagan.

bwi is the best by a long shot, imo. not the easiest to access but by far the most functional. and it's not HARD to get to and from, just takes a little more time. there are plenty of cheap ways to do it. you can take the shuttle to the metro station in greenbelt and then go directly to dupont. or you can take the amtrak to union station and then metro to dupont. or you can take a bus the whole way. it's easy and way way cheaper than a cab.

it really depends on how much time you have. do you have 1-2 hours to spare to get to/from BWI or Dulles?

if you don't have the two hours to travel, then choose Reagan. Even using a shuttle to greenbelt (or MARC/amtrak) and metro in, or the bus, still going to take 1-2 hours time depending on traffic and lateness of trains, etc.

You can just as easily take a shuttle or bus from Dulles to Tysons Metro and then metro into DuPont from Tysons. None of them are hard to get to/from, just time consuming. IMO, all 3 are functional and all 3 are easy to get to/from... BWI and Dulles take the longest to commute to/from.. Regan the easiest in all aspects.. .its least amount of time from airport to hotel/conference, its functional (easy to maneuver around), and its closest (by ~30 miles) to where you will be.

Reagan is the family favorite. My aunt lived there for 40+ years and was always very adamant about using Reagan.
