    Question Newport, RI

    Advertisements
I am from CT, so I have been to RI on many different occassions, however I have never lived there. Newport, is a possible shore duty station, and I am curious as to where people would suggest living? What are some nice areas to live that are 35 minutes or less from Newport?

    Apartments or renting a house?
I know more about apartment building than I do about anything else.

As a side note, Newport is awesome...basically, all of RI is awesome actually

I like a lot of places in RI, lol. I spend a lot of time in Westerly, Watch Hill, Block Island, and those areas lol. I've been to Newport a few times, but just for touristy stuff, or partying with Salve students, lol.

My husband and I would like to rent a home.

I would suggest that if you end up at Newport, you live somewhere on the island...otherwise you either have to register your car in RI to get an RI easy pass (for the newport bridge) or you have to pay $4 each way to get over the bridge into newport...PM me, I've lived on the island...I still go to Chapel and PWOC at Newport

East Greenwich is only about 30 minutes from Newport, though it's a pretty expensive town to live in. Coventry is mostly nice, but the drive is about 40 minutes. West Warwick is about a 35 minute drive, but there are a lot of areas to look out for there...that being said, I lived in an apartment in a "bad" area of West Warwick before and the worst part was that on weekends, punk kids would be outside yelling until like 11.

And of course, you give better advice than I do

We are aware of the easy pass, and that isn't too big of a deal.

We just wouldn't want to pay crazy amounts to live in Newport to get an apartment, kwim? And we don't really do military housing.

Since I am from CT, something between the lower CT/RI border and Newport, would be ideal.

Are there certain areas that should be avoided like the plague?
