Anyone in Conneticut?
Hi! I'm currently in SC and moving up to CT in the Fall. Just wanted to say "Hi" and maybe ask some questions about the area! Thanks!

DB and I are moving to Groton in early 2010. I've been told that Mystic is a nice area to live. How far is that from the naval base? We're considering buying in the area as we will be there for 3 years. Also, we are definitely still people who like to go out and have a good time...is there anything to do there? I've heard its pretty close to NYC and Boston.
Thanks!! |

Mystic is maybe 15/20 min from the subbase. Mystic has some great restaraunts & stuff, Mohegan Sun & Foxwoods/MGM aren't too away (although Foxwoods is filing for bankruptcy I believe
). I grew up here & will be here till late Dec, so just let me know if there is anything you wanna know!

I grew up in Mystic, and I would LOVE to live there again and raise my kids there. Its a beautiful town. A little more expensive than Groton, and about 15 minutes away from base I believe.
Its about 2-2.5 hours to both NYC and Boston, we used to just hop on the train or even a Greyhound bus into the city (either of them!) so we didn't have to deal with driving in the traffic.

I just moved from there back in February. We were stationed there for 3 years. I lived in subase housing but worked in Mystic and from my house it took me about 10 minutes to make the drive. (I had a slightly heavy foot back then though.) Mystic is a beautiful, quaint, old little town with cute little shops and restaurants. It is quite pricey to buy there though I'm sure the market would be in your favor right now. Subase is OLD. Parking is crap, facilities are just okay. Like already mentioned, you do have the casino's, NYC, Boston and there is also Cape Cod and Newport not too far away too. The Groton beaches weren't all that great but go a little south or a little north and there are some very nice ones.

Thanks Kate -- that is helpful. He is considering buying if the price it right. We have heard Mystic is pricey also, but hopefully the market will be in our favor and we could find something we can afford. I've heard its a pretty, little sea town! Was your husband on a sub?
