The good, the bad, the ugly???

Good: schools, lots of stores, restaurants, culture, close to DC, safe
Bad: traffic, traffic, traffic! and fairly expensive in some areas--although the whole metro DC area is! it's a little too far from DC for me but I don't have children or a family to worry about and I am in the city frequently for school/work/social reasons.

we will have a 2nd grader and a kindergartner (and a newborn)
DH will be at Andrews but commute is second and third behind good schools, family friendly.

I would have to say GREAT schools instead of just good. I grew up in this area and know all the ins and outs so PM me anytime. If you know the specific area you will be in then I can give you info there too.
I do agree the traffic is outragous and your DH is in for some looooong commutes, but your kids will be growing up in a wonderful county. I remember when much of Fairfax was farms.

back in the day (10+ years) it was a nice area... now its all traffic, apartments & buildings, lol..

but its a great area!! and tons to do!!

Northern Virginia rocks like nobody's business

You will love it here so much that the traffic is nothing.. Those who think traffic is a problem must not know all the back roads, shortcuts that I know LOL I was born and raised here.. PM if you want the skinny, pictures, info sent to you etc..

i love it in VA we are currently in DC but we are moving around fairfax county im super excited well DC to AAFB is a little commute with traffic but its cool i love it here.

Fairfax is wonderful, lived here since I was 12...

Traffic? Not so bad, I agree with the other girls, you definitely have to use the back roads, but be prepared for it to take you 20 minutes to go a mile on any random day for no apparent reason.

Schools? Came here in the middle of 7th grade and I LOVED it. Rocky Run MS/Chantilly HS were wonderful, great teachers and both really safe schools.

The Bad AND Ugly?
1.) Fair Oaks Walmart.

Good lord, I want to punch a wall just thinking about it.
2.) Greenbriar Shopping Ctr. Piece of advice? One word, patience.

DH used to go to Fairfax all the time..he lived in Culpeper and had family in chantilly and he loved fairfax! he's always wanting to head back to VA
