'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition' coming to area
Get your hammers and tool belts ready, a reality show that's always a tearjerker is coming to the D.C. area and needs your help.
By the end of the month, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition will build a home in Maryland for a family in need and a community center in D.C. On Thursday, the show's executive producer, Conrad Ricketts, came to D.C. to rally builders and contractors and ask for volunteers to join host Ty Pennington. Ricketts says they are "still missing a tremendous amount of materials and supplies" and need sub-contractors to help finish the project. The locations of the home and community center are being kept under wraps. They won't be revealed until later this month, when the projects are complete. The house will be the 158th built by "Extreme Makeover" and the community center will be the show's 60th community project. They're here. This was just on the news.
HYATTSVILLE, Md. (AP) - The television series "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" is in the Washington area to tackle two projects in one week. The show's design crew and hundreds of volunteers on Saturday surprised Nikema and Tamara Tripp at their Hyattsville home, which will be rebuilt. The show also will transform The Fishing School, a nonprofit youth development organization in northeast D.C. Derek LaVallee, a local spokesman for the show, says the new school will be three times bigger. He says both The Fishing School and the Tripp home also will be built with energy efficient features. Burch Builders Group, which has offices in Warrenton and Alexandria, and Vienna's G&M Contracting are donating their services to the projects. LaVallee says both structures will be demolished Sunday. The big reveal will take place Aug. 29. |
