    Ft. Meade help :)

    Advertisements
I also posted this down in the military relocation section, but I hope you ladies don't mind if I put it here, too (there seems to be more traffic).

DB is PCSing to Ft. Meade this summer and is considering buying a place instead of renting. He's checked out a few realtors online, but I'm wondering if any of you have any personal recommendations. So far, he's been looking mainly at townhouses in the Savage/Laurel area. He'll be there for a couple years; I don't know if I'll be moving there or not (I'm only a few hours away). I'd really appreciate any of your insights, advice, recommendations or warnings, too!

    Thanks in advance!

This is the link to my friends mom's sight. Her husband is retired Army from Meade and they still live there. She's an agent and would understand the military relocation stuff.

Glen Burnie might be an area he may want to check out too...it's near there and I have a friend who lives in GB and we drive to FT meade all the time w/o any issue.

I'd also suggest checking out the townhouses in Odenton and Crofton.

hey cali! my officemate lives near there-- she said the following:
Laurel (Howard County) is preferred over Laurel (Prince Georges County)/Savage area. The latter Laurel- PGC and Savage areas have many developments that are about 15 yrs old... but can be alittle more "ghetto". but the upside is that there are alot of foreclosures he might be able to capitalize on... She suggested you look in Elkridge and Hanover. They're 10 and 5 min respectively from Ft. Meade and she & her DH LOVE it there! (they live in Elkridge)

if you think he might be interested in new construction: the two main developers are Ryan Homes and RyLin (or RyLynn) Homes.

    Thank you all SO much!

DB's been inundated with exams, but I passed along your suggestions when I could. He has been looking at North Laurel as he's trying to avoid PGC if possible. But there's a little place in Savage that he really likes. I mentioned Glen Burnie, but he seems to want to be west of Meade and closer to 95/295. Picky picky picky soldier.... (but that works in my favor 'cause it makes an easier trip to where I live ).

I'll pass along your latest suggestions as well. Thanks again!

Savage is a great area. I worked at the main elementary school there for years and am still friends with a lot of the families there. Savage Mill is really neat to visit.

DH lived in Glen Burnie; it's nice enough but he does call it "Glentuckey"

I'm in savage, I live in the historic area. The duplexes here, for the most part, look pretty nice! Its a quiet area on our side (the side Savage Mill is on), but not sure about the other side with the developments! I would definitely stay out of the PG county side of Laurel, but Laurel is also in Howard (like someone else mentioned) and Anne Arundel.... Check out Columbia or Elkridge also! Good luck!
