    Ft. Drum PCS

    Advertisements
My husband graduated AIT today and is due home (Georgia) tonight around 10 o'clock. We are leaving Friday to move to Ft. Drum, New York.

Can anyone help me out with letting me know what all we need to do?
And is anyone else moving there soon or live there already?

I've not pcs'd before, so I don't know the process.

Has he applied for housing there? Do you want housing or do you want to liv in town? There's probably a waiting list for housing.

My bro is at drum. The nearest town is watertown which is pretty small from what I gather. Syracuse is an hour or so away.

Expect tons and tons of snow there.

Yea, the snow is going to be a huge change. Haha.

We are looking for off base housing because on base is a 12-18 month wait. We still haven't applied for it yet either since they are playing around with the DEERS thing. I have to be put on his orders before we do anything.

I have never PCS'ed so I dont know how it goes but here are some helpful sites for you

This one has some great offbase housing. I was looking at housing cause if Matt stayed in when he got back we would have needed a bigger house.

Also here is the Fort Drum wedsite which has lots of helpful information.

We have a house in Carthage which is pretty close to the base. Watertown is the closest little town which has the esscentials (mall, bowling alley, resturants) Syracuse is the biggest city near by and is about an hour and a half south of us. I am down in Maryland while he is deployed but am going to start going back up to our house starting the end of the month. I was avoiding the snow and we have a really great neighbor who keeps an eye on things while he is deployed.

I live about 20 minutes from Fort Drum, so let me know if there's anything I can do to help. We moved here in June. The snow is definitely a change for us too and you'll get sick of it, haha. Otherwise, it's not a bad area
