    Moving to DC

    Advertisements
I hope I put this in the right place. We just got orders to DC. I am wondering if anybody can give me any info about it. Do you like it? Whats the weather like? I have heard that there are some really bad places to live and some good ones. Where would be the realy nice areas to live in. We are thinking of finding a rental hous instead of living in housing so I would like to know the best places to be looking for one. Any information I can get about the area would be great. Thanks.

I go to school in DC..

Um, the weather is cold (I'm a Texas girl..) during the winter time, layers is a must!!

I don't know about nice areas except for Adam's Morgan (which is expensive) and several areas around town which have slipped my mind.

I like it actually and I wish I didn't have to leave this semester.

You'll enjoy DC, there is SO MUCH to do there!!

    It's like a mini vacation ..

Well, for me anyway, it is.
    Hope this helps

Where in DC are you getting sent? I have lived in NoVa (Northern Va, DC, & Maryland) pretty much my entire life.

If you are looking for a place off base, let me know, dad has been doing realestate in this area for 20+ years and could help you all find a place.

Where exactly are you going to be in the area? With it being DC there are lots of different places around here you guys could be stationed.

I would suggest staying out of the outskirts of DC. The southside? I'm not sure what it's called, but a few places right outside of DC (the Mall area) are pretty bad. There's a place called Anacosta (sp?) My SO's old captain lives up there and was scaring me to death about that place. He was even scared to go there, in the daytime!

DC is not bad at all unless you move to the ghetto. I've lived in this area all my life. You can't actually live in The Mall because that's where all the museums and monuments are and there are no homes there. You will probably want to live just outside of the city. But it just depends on where exactly you are stationed. Here is a link to our local news site, it may help choose what areas are best. http://wtop.com/

Hubby will be stationed at andrews afb. I have heard that there are really bad areas in DC. We were thinking of living maybe in maryland. A friend of my hubbys said upper marbourough md was nice, just not sure how far from the base that is. I just wanna know what areas to stay away from and what areas would be good to live in and still be within 20 mins of the base.

Anacostia is scary!!!! My cousin lives on Bolling and works at the Pentagon and that's the nearest metro. There is lots of nice housing though available in NoVa and Maryland if you choose to not live in DC...

I am moving that way on Monday. We got a house in Woodbridge, VA which isn't far from DC at all.
