Question Anyone in DC or stationed at Andrews AFB......

    Advertisements
Can you tell me anything about the area, good or bad? Housing, is it nice or crappy? WHat about renting out in town, are there nice houses to rent in town that are affordable? Is the base nice? Any info I can get on the area would be great. Oh and the weather what are summers and winters like there? TIA

There are alot of us in the DC/MD/VA area

I dont know anything about Andrews specifcally though - hopefully some DC/MD ladies/gents can help you out there.

Weather is crazy - technically we get all 4 seasons. Winters not much snow, but every few years we do get wallopped. Fall is pretty here with the leaves; Spring is nice; Summers are humid (ugh!) (I say "technically because I wish we got more snow in the winter - i it)

Lots of great day trips nearby - Baltimore aquarium, all the sights in DC, amusement parks, Shenandoah Trail, beaches.

I'm in Waldorf, MD which is 20mins from Andrews. I love love this area. We own our home (and there is a 4 bedroom house for sale on our street), its very quiet here and pretty. It snows maybe 5 days a year and only maybe 2-3 inches. Summers can get hot and humid. Andrews is nice, theyre redoing housing. The hospital is ok. Any specific questions?

I was wondering how houses were out there. I know the waiting list for housing says 0-6 mos, we would need in imidiately if we moved there. We would need a 4 bedroom so im not sure how easy it would be to get into housing. If we cant i wanna rent a hoiuse somewhere, but when I look online all i can find are older houses that are rediculous in rent. Like 2500-3000 a month for a 4 bedroom. We cant afford much more then maybe 2000-2500 at most to rent. So I was just wondering about that and also the weather, we live in texas right now. I told hubby i wanted to move somewhere where you get 4 distinct seasons. Here it has been in the 70's and not very cold and am really starting to HATE it. it has never been this warm here for the holidays. So 4 seasons would be nice lol. I have heard from someone that it has alot of crime out there, is that true, or is it a nice place to live?

Immediatly outside of the base is ghetto. But if you go just a little bit down the road you're fine. And Waldorf is a nice area.

The houses here in Waldorf are nice where I am. Mine was built in 1980 so its a little old but redone. There is a house for rent on my street as well. Have you tried to contact a real estate agent about rental houses? Or www.militarybyowner.com La Plata is nice as well, its next to Waldorf. BAH is pretty high in the area. You do get all 4 seasons here. I looooove it out here b/c during the fall the leaves turn orange and red , during the spring there are tons of flowers, we do get some snow, and summers I'm not fond of the humidity but its better then other places. There is minimal crime in Waldorf which is in Charles County... Prince Georges county has a pretty high crime rate, thats the county the base is in. I'm not sure about school here since it will still be quite a few years before my daughter will go to one. I know the middle school right by my house is good, my next door neighbor is a teacher there. You can check out www.somd.com they also have forums. We have a brand new movie theater going in Brandywine... 16 screens and stadium seating lol
