    PAX River

    Advertisements
My husband has orders to PAX River in December..

Sooo.. is it nice? Good elementary schools? Housing on base, good or bad? We're only moving from three hours away and we'll probably check it out before we move.

I've lived in Calvert County for 17 years. My dad is retired navy and has a civilian job on PAX. I like it here. The schools are good. I believe Calvert has better schools than St. Mary's and its only a 20-30 minute drive to the base from southern Calvert. It's pretty down here too!

Oooh! I think this is where we are heading next year.

From what I can tell like mentioned above Calvert County has better schools than St. Marys. I will have a child in high school and have heard not so great things about Great Mills HS which is St. Mary's County and services the base. There are alot of pretty areas up there and I believe alot of new housing going up at the moment.

We'll be heading up there for shore duty after well gosh the last shore duty command DH had was his FIRST command in the Navy.....and he's been in 14 years.......shore duty is WAY overdue.

We're going to try living on base first, see if it's doable. I don't want to buy a house and then get stuck with it if we have to move at the end of his assignment. We're going to take a day trip over there in October/November-ish, check out the area.

Oh and the twins still have another two years from now before they start school, so I'll have time to do more research on that.

I would live in Calvert county but then you have to deal with that bridge. If my kids were school age and we lived there I would put them in private if I had to live in St marys. Don't live in chesapeake estates, that place is hard to find your way around in. They've built up St Marys county alot since we lived there 3 years ago. Eli was born in Leonardtown and we moved here when he was 8 months or something like that.

Glad to hear that everything i have heard is that Calvert is better.......I told my husband that he'll more than likely just have to deal with the drive and I'd rather live out in Calvert. We might be there next year as well!

I will probably have a hard time adjusting to it.......I've been in Hawaii for 10 years!

pax area/ calvert is the boonies - so to say- its very woodsey, theres not much to do & theres alot of a small town feel in many spots. The closest mall is Waldorf, which is 30 or so min away, the nicer one is annapolis, which is probably about 45-60 min from pax.
if you're from the city, you might not like it.

Calvert is growing very quickly.... Atleast the north & central end are.

I like living in the boonies so that works for me.

Has anyone seen or lived in the housing on the base, any reviews on that?
