Big Grin Possibly moving to Maine?

    Advertisements
It would be the Brunswick area. My hubby and I are looking into orders now and Maine is the one we put down for our 1st choice. We know we may not get it, but, still wanted to check.

Any good apartments in the area? Where to stay away from? Thoughts?

We lived in Brunswick a long time ago. It's where I had DD. I am sure it has built up alot since but we lived on base.

We picked Brunswick orders again but had them yanked and we got Hawaii instead LOL. That base is closing in 2010 so be prepared for that. Housing on base and right off base (near Cook's Corner) is very nice and new. Very pretty area. Brunswick itself is a college town and right on the coast. Cute shops/restaurants,etc.

We lived in Bath the first year, on High Street and I LOVED our historic home!!! But our kids were too little for school so I'm not sure about schools in the area.

There are beaches (sandy) at Popham and Reed.

No areas really to avoid but you won't find hardly any apt complexes up there.

Good luck! (btw they have a target, etc up there too)

We live in brunswick! STAY FAR AWAY I hate winters here!! There really aren't "areas" to stay away from. The area is small, and the base is small too! We live in military housing off McKeen street..its nice! there are new housing outside of the base that look really good too!

    Any questions..just let me know!

Isn't NAS getting ready to close down and move to Jacksonville soon? My husband has been up there for about a month fixing a plane and tells me while it's a nice change of scenery he's glad we can't be stationed up there and that I wouldn't be nuts about it either.

As seeing I come from Maine and live here now I happen to love my state.

I met my dh while he was stationed in Brunswick and I lived down there for about a year and I loved it. It's close to major cities, beach and then you have the mountains which is a little further away but not to bad.

maybe you have to be from this state to really appreciate it.

For me Maine = lots and lots of snow and I am not crazy about snow.....even when I lived there.

We're VP Navy and Maine always loomed out there as a possibility, but now those squadrons are moving to NAS Jax and we're pretty happy about that.

I wouldn't have hated a tour there, but it wasn't top on our list.

I live near Augusta, but like others have said- the base is closing soon. Bruinswick is a town full of great people and shops. Make sure you try Fatboys a local drive thru

    Good luck for Guam!!

We LOVED Brunswick, and I'm a warm weather girl. Maine is a special place to me.
