    DC area kids fun

    Advertisements
I'm going home next month & Im trying to find a couple places to take DD to keep her busy.
I know the childrens museum, zoo & aquarium. Is there anything else fun for toddler aged kids in the DC area?

    Thanks!

There is a place I loved the most when I was little, but I cannot remember the name. It's a huge statue, with a hand coming out of the ground. I seriously LOVED that place when I was really little.
I'm going to call my mom and ask her.

Holy crap... this is NOT how I remember it. I guess I was brave when I was little! I didn't know they moved it.

I also loved the reflecting pool, and the paddle boats at the tidal basin. Those three are things I remember most from before I was 5. After that I started getting into the museums and memorials.

    Smithsonian?

I'm going "home" (Alexandria) next week and plan on taking my 2 year old to the air and space museum. He is going to flipping love it! DS also just likes to go for walks on the potomac and look at the boats. I might also take him to the Natural History Museum to see the dinosaurs.. not sure though, I'm afraid it might scare him.

    Thank you for the ideas!!

I dont think I've ever seen the awakening. Wow!! That's really neat!

I've done the paddle boat thing- I'd love to do it again but don't think she'd sit still long enough for it.

Not sure about the Smithsonian, I haven't been in years! Not sure how'd she would react to the air & space. we took her to NASA here & all she wanted to do is run. Gotta love this stage!

Are there any hands on museums for kids- so they can touch things and interact?

thanks again! You guys are great!

The only place I know of with hands on stuff is the Children's Museum in Baltimore. I know that's not DC though. Sorry. It's been a long time since I was a kid in DC!

I wonder if the Spy Museum has a small kids area?

There is hands on at the Natural History Museum. My 2.5 year loves it there.
He loves the bug section and dinosaurs too.
We want to go see the Cherry Blossoms.
