Armed Services YMCA offers military parents an affordable romantic celebration A special Valentines Day celebration often isn’t possible for young military parents due to the high cost of food, entertainment, and or the availability of babysitting. The Armed Services YMCA of Hampton Roads (ASYMCAHR) is making a romantic evening
dinner obtainable for any military parent who wants to enjoy some special time with their special
companion. The Fourth Annual ASYMCAHR Romantic Couples Dinner is scheduled for
Saturday, Feb. 9, at the Oceana Community Center. Cost of the event is $6 a couple for E-3 and below, $12 for E-4 and E-5, and $18 for personnel E-6 and above. Kim Fadely, ASYMCAHR Military Family Support Director, said couples won’t have to worry about child care because we will have trained staff on hand to care for their children throughout the dinner.

“Every couple enjoys a chance to have a quiet meal in a romantic atmosphere,” she said. “But that’s not always easy to obtain for a junior serviceman or woman.” “We want to make it a special evening for everyone, including the children,” Fadely said. “We’ll have all sorts of activities planned to keep the children entertained while the parents can enjoy a gourmet meal.”

The dinner will be prepared by a local chef and will be served by students from Virginia Beach High Schools. Fadely said the price was created on an adjustable scale to make sure service members of all ranks could enjoy a romantic evening. The Event will take place in the Wadsworth Housing Community Center between 6 and 9 p.m., Feb. 9. Fadely said extensive planning has gone into transforming the community room into a sophisticated intimate eatery.

The Wadsworth Community Center is located at 1200 S. Birdneck Road, Virginia Beach. Fadely said any military member or dependant can stop by for a registration form. They can also call Fadely at (757)433-2055 or email her at for more information. Deadline to register is February 8th, payment is due at time of registration and no refunds

“It’s going to be a great evening that no one will want to miss,” Fadely said.
