Hi, he just got his orders to Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas. And I'm really nervous, being from the Texas desert and not knowing what snow is really like. I also would like to know what is there to do? I would be arriving there in mid December. Thank you for your time and any advice you can offer.

I'm near Ft. Leavenworth. Snow is...well, it's...wet sometimes, and honestly I'm not a snow fan. But, there are some girls who are...so who knows.

Leavenworth and Lansing don't have much. It's pretty much a typical military town. There's a movie theater and bowling alley on post. Typical small town in Leavenworth. Legends (shopping/entertainment plaza) is less than 20 minutes away, Kansas City isn't far and is likely where you'll go for most entertainment (bars, shopping other than Walmart/Kmart/Dillons). There's a few parks and stuff.
What kind of info are you looking for?

I envy you! I'll switch you!!!! You can go to Fayetteville, NC and I'll stay in the Leavenworth area!!! I LOVE Kansas! The winters are different each year. They are saying that this year will be a hard winter so remember to bring cloths for cold weather. Also remember to drive slowly since you don't know how to drive in the snow and ice. I don't know much about the town Leavenworth but you are RIGHT next to Kansas City which has some awesome stuff to do! I highly suggest the Plaza area in Kansas City, MO. Also the Legends area is really cool too. If you want some slower city stuff to do, go to Lawrence, KS. I hope you like my home state!!!!

My dh currently is stationed at Leavenworth.
for us, we hate it here and have been pretty much miserable since we got here. But, we know a few people that like that it's small and not in the middle of a huge city. we got here on xmas day last year and it snowed the day after we got here. Leavenworth is small, small, small. I joke if 50 ppl move away its getting downgraded from a town to a village. I personally havent really found anything I like to do here. Theres a couple good places to shop but they are kinda far. Legends is the closest and id say its about 20 mins away If you have any more questions feel free to PM me. Im having a brain fart on what else to say about this place

Thank you girls so much!!! And as far as info anything and everything. I need things to keep me sane while he is working.
![]() And OliveJuice, trust me I'd trade you if I could, but only because I hate being cold! But I guess I better start putting my flip flops away and start getting winter clothes.
