Great Lakes housing?
I'm filling out the application for housing- which community would you recommend? Does anyone have pictures of any of the housing? I know we'll be in the older housing to begin with- how bad is it, really?

remind me what your rank is again? Ft Sheridan is e7 and above only..I am pretty sure? We live in Nimitz Village and love our home. The one house they offered us in Forrestal was nice enough, but not nearly big enough for us. I have pics of the inside of my house before our HHG arrived...PM me your email and I can email them to you.
There are some nice homes in Halsey...espcially the single family units but I am not sure if there is a rank factor involved? And there are some ghetto fabulous units over there too. Part of it is getting ready to be demolished so a large chunk of the neighborhood is fenced off and just looks junky in general. I wouldn't want to live over there b/c of the construction that is getting ready to happen, but that's just me

My husband is an E5.
I've seen the forest city website but have no idea what the waiting list is, what the housing looks like, etc. I've seen some pictures of housing that is absolutely HORRIFYING.

When do you guys get here again? I can go snap some pics tomorrow if you'd like ![]() P.s. I don't wanna drive all the way down to Glenview to take pictures..it's far, don't put it on your list. Well, it's not FAR but we live literally RTC is across a field from our house and the main gate is only 1min away if there were no stop lights. |

Have you looked at http://www.housing.navy.mil/onestop/_hqd/?bid=58
That was the specific link to GL housing. Let me know if it didn't work. |

Do any of you know what the wait list is, though? I've heard we can have a house waiting for us but have no idea which neighborhood. I've also heard that for the nicer housing, we can't get on the waiting list until after we've been in Great Lakes for 6 months or so.

If you call Forest City and ask for Jackie I bet she can help you with that info. |

Yeah, I have no idea. They just ask for a preference, and I wanted to be able to give them some idea at what we would prefer. I have no idea about the options available, or what the wait lists are for the available options. We don't have to have new housing, and in all honesty we probably won't move again after we've settled into base housing, even once given the option. I'll probably be disappointed given the base housing in Hawaii, but at least we won't be paying out of pocket.
