Fort Sheridan at Great Lakes - North Central U.S

So we are planning to move to great lakes and I been researching for military housing with a good school in the area. So far I'm more interested in Fort Sheridan. Anyone live there and have any input? You have any idea how long the waiting list is? Any information would be helpful, thanks

The homes were older but much better schools. GL schools were bad. Before we left they were talking about remodeling.

I live in Great Lakes and the schools DO SUCK! I hate this school here. Ft. Sheridan has very very nice housing now. They have remodeled and built new ones. Not sure how long the housing wait is. But if I could move to Ft. Sheridan I would in a heart beat. We are going into housing tomorrow I can ask them how long the wait is if you tell me how many bedrooms you need.

The schools were the worst I have ever seen. In fact our last year was a total nightmare. I took DD out of school 2 months before the school year ended and homeschooled her for the rest of the year. We moved out of state and I had her repeat 4th grade. It was just an unsafe situation in addition to the fact she was learning nothing. She was actually loosing skills as opposed to gaining/improving them. It was just really bad and I can’t express enough to someone with a school age child that if you have to send your child to a Great Lakes school be involved and know what’s going on. Other than the schools I liked the area.

I grew up in that area and the city outside GL is pretty bad. I would much rather live at Ft. Sheridan. I lived about 20-30 minutes away from Great Lakes for the first 23 years of my life in Buffalo Grove for 20 and Kenosha, WI for 3. So while I'm just sort of familiar with the base, if you have any questions about the area, feel free to PM me!
