License Plates Could ID Sex Offenders - In the News

MADISON, Wis. -- A Wisconsin lawmaker wants to make the state's worst sex offenders easy to spot on the road.

Republican Rep. Joel Kleefisch has introduced a bill that would require the most dangerous child molesters and sexually violent offenders to attach bright green license plates to their vehicles.

Kleefisch said many sex offenders use their cars to commit crimes by driving to meet someone they met online or prowling parks and schools.

He said he picked the bright green color because children associate it with Mr. Yuk, the symbol used to warn children of poison.

Kleefisch said he's also considering placing a sex offender warning on each plate.

It's not clear whether Wisconsin lawmakers will support the bill. Lawmakers in Ohio are working on a similar measure that's backed by that state's governor.

Love this idea!! They need one for convicted DUI drivers also

I really don't know how well that would work. If one of the sex offenders really wanted to lure a child into a vehicle, all he/she would have to do is steal someone's vehicle.

I think it is a wonderful idea. I think they should stick out like sore thumbs. They are all sick sicks people in my book.

I see it this way...If you are doing it for one set of offenders, then why not for everyone who has committed some form of a crime...Wouldnt you want to know if you are parked next to someone who committed a homicide if you agree with this?
