I get the chills reading about it. These divers (and kids!) are amazing.

“The kids wore face masks: The "method to get them out, all the boys are wearing full face mask and the rescue divers carried them out through the passage in the cave complex."

    .

It's not level ground. At least one section of it (marked as the "narrow flooded section" here) is cramped enough that if they made the boys swim out they would have to do it alone - reports I've seen suggest that they couldn't fit both a boy and an experienced adult diver who could guide him in that space at the same time. Looking at the map, any tube or tunnel would have to be under several metres of water for at least a few hundred metres, which means it would have to be totally watertight and strong enough to bear the weight of the water pressing down on it; if some part of the middle failed under strain, anyone in there would die.

Plus the water is floodwater/run-off from the surface. It's rainwater. God knows what kind of debris it picked up, or what damage any debris might do to the tunnel...

I haven't got a clue how they're going to solve this.
The boys are swimming with two other divers I thought?

They are, but I meant swimming side by side. I didn’t explain that very well, sorry!

If they’re going in single file and the poor kid panics, it’s not easy for the more experienced diver to turn around to calm him or give him closer guidance. If they could swim side by side where the guide could steady him, or at least swim one after the other but still have room to turn and reposition if necessary, it would be easier, but...

It’s possible the reports I saw and was using to make that statement were wrong, but in the narrowest section they supposedly have something like fifteen inches of space to work in. Surely that would be single file only, and severely limit how much help the guide can give since he can’t really turn around until it broadens again.

The fact that this has (so far) worked as well as it has...they’re fantastic.

OMG I'm dumb, I didn't realize they were still stuck in there until I saw that four were just rescued! Damn, they've been in there for a long time

I really love seeing someone who "reasonably" has no connection to an issue, just saying "Hey, I have resources available and I can try to fix this. And if our solution doesn't work this time, it's not wasted because it might be the solution next time."

Given our domestic issues with people that many consider "not our own, not our problem," it's really heartening to see someone helping others simply because they can and it's the right thing to do, without questioning whether the help is "deserved" or whose fault the whole situation is.

They've got 8 of the boys out now! Think they're pulling the remaining 4 + coach tomorrow
