Takata Airbag Largest Recall in US History

    Advertisements
I only found out from a family member about this massive recall recently despite the fact that this issue has been going on for a couple of years now. So, I figured I’d share this in case there’s someone else out there who doesn't know about the recall and how serious it is.

The defective airbag, when deployed improperly, can explode thus shooting metal fragments into the driver/passenger’s face causing death. Over 33 million cars from over 14 different auto makers are potentially affected. I checked my VIN number and I do have one of the affected cars. Owners of affected vehicles should not be driving their cars until the part can be replaced (mid-summer 2016 is what I was told), so I’ve been offered a FREE rental car to drive in the meantime.

You can go to your manufacturer’s consumer website or use NHTSA’s VIN lookup tool at https://vinrcl.safercar.gov/vin/ to see if your car is affected.

I'm glad this is helping get the word out there.

Well shoot. And it has no option but to be driven. Call DH is calling the dealership tomorrow to see if it was fixed before we bought it (had it approx a month).

When I found out about the recall, I called Honda Customer Service and they asked for my VIN and confirmed my vehicle was part of the recall. They got my address and looked up the closest Honda dealer to me, gave me their number, and told me to let the dealer know that my car is involved in the recall. I called the dealer today and their rental car office was closed but they'll set me up with a rental car tomorrow. All I need to do is bring in my registration (because it has the VIN on it) and sign a few documents, one of which promising that I will not drive my car while I have the rental vehicle.

All the Honda dealers are aware of the situation, but I was told to call customer service back if the dealer gave me any trouble.
