AT&T Sues Verizon

Telecom giant AT&T Inc. (T: 25.7724, 0.4124, 1.63%) filed a lawsuit against Verizon Wireless, jointly owned by Verizon Communications Inc. (VZ: 29.23, 0.17, 0.58%) and Vodafone Group Plc (VOD: 22.5122, 0.3622, 1.64%), for its recent “There’s A Map For That” ad campaign, claiming the ad is misleading, according to reports. The Verizon TV ads, which mock Apple, Inc.’s (AAPL: 192.6898, 3.9398, 2.09%) iPhone ads touting the smart phone’s many iPhone application features, display maps suggesting that AT&T’s third-generation high-speed network has large gaps in coverage.

I saw a verizon commercial yesterday that said "there's a map for that" I thought they were saying "there is an app for that" I thought to myself at&t is going to have a fit

When I heard the "there's a map for that" I knew there was a law suit a brewin'. I'm not surprised, they were way too close to AT&T's actual slogan with that one.

I like the commercial. Yes, it's mocking but isn't that what commercials are about? To catch the viewer's attention and lead them to their product instead of the competitions product?

I don't think they will win. I mean if Vanilla Ice can get away with a very VERY similar tune to a Police song then Verizon can get away with saying "there's a map for that" because it's not the same as "there's an app for that." I mean come on the difference is "an app" and "map". (if any of you have ever heard Vanilla Ice explain how his song is different from the Police song then you will giggle at this...if you have not heard him explain it...it might go over your head.)

It wasn't just for the slogan they used. AT&T is also pissed for Verizon saying AT&T didn't cover a particular area when they did. Apparently they've also filed a restraining order.

What? Verizon forgot to add one dot in Minissota? What's the restraining order going to do? This is just silly to me!

I dunno what the restraining orders gonna do, maybe stop verizon mentioning AT&T in commercials? I do know the lawsuit is mainly for false advertising though.
I agree it's silly, but when you've got a chance to sue one of your main competitors you're gonna grab them by the balls and take everything you can.

a restraining order? for what? so their buildings cant be near each other, just in case the verizon building was feeling froggy

I knew their map wasn't right. Alabama was practically blank when I know there's lots of iphone users in little ole Florence!
