Police: Child Left In Car While Dad Slept In Store - In the News

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―
A Highland Park man is facing charges after he allegedly left his 3-year-old child locked in a car in a grocery store parking lot.

The incident happened Thursday afternoon at the Giant Eagle Market District store on Centre Avenue in Shadyside.

Hisham Abdel-Ghaffar, 45, allegedly went inside the store, shortly before 4 p.m. to have a prescription filled, but he fell asleep.

Bystanders noticed the child alone in the car and called police.

The child was inside the car for about an hour.

Ghaffar was taken to the Allegheny County Jail on charges of recklessly endangering another person and endangering the welfare of a child.

Geez poor kid. I guess one good thing is that he wasn't driving. If he fell asleep in the store I can't imagine what would have happened if he went outside to drive home.
