Sailor missing after 30-hour sea search
By Andrew Scutro - Staff writer (Navy times) Posted : Friday Jan 4, 2008 16:02:31 EST A sailor is missing from the destroyer Hopper in the Arabian Sea. According to information from Naval Forces Central Command in Bahrain, the sailor was last seen at 4:30 a.m. Thursday. The Hopper, cruiser Port Royal and frigate Ingraham, as well as embarked helicopters, began the search following a ‘man overboard’ call. After more than 30 hours of searching, the effort was called off but the sailor remained missing, according to Lt. John Gay, a spokesman at Naval Forces Central Command public affairs. Gay said the sea at the time was calm and the temperature warm, about 79 degrees, giving hope that the sailor would be located. “The conditions were favorable,” Gay said. The Navy has not yet identified the missing sailor. The Associated Press contributed to this report. |

I'm confused
![]() Was there an attack I didn't hear about? The ship is ok and just one guy is missing? In perfect weather? Maybe he wanted to disappear, sounds like... someone please correct me if there is more to the story, this is the first I've heard of it. Many that everyone is ok, regardless of the reason.
