breastfeeding and birthcontrol(LAM Method)
http://www.medela.com/newfiles/faq/lam.html
Has anyone used this method? I am this time and so far so good....ive only got a month left on it. My nursing class nurse said its a great way. I have gotten preggos off the pill and dont want to use any hormones when nursing so I have been using this method this time. Its a 1% chance or something but she said the odds are really the same as the pill. Just curious to those who have tried this or are doing it too. |

Just keep in mind you CAN still ovulate with exclusive breastfeeding and you have to ovulate to get a period. This is how MANY women get pregnant without even having a post partum period. there are 3 women on my Feb 2007 board that just found out they are pregnant due to this

I bf'ed for 17 months and we never used any bc except the good old pull out method!! I think it is a great excuse to keep women to bf'ed
but there is always that chance of getting pregnant!

Yeah it says that u can only do this for the 1st 6 months without anything else...and Im still doing "demand feedings w/ her" and nurse her at night too. I know its a risk but honestly with girls getting preggos on here from bc and tubals....I just figured this might work.

We used it with Taniyah. If you exclusively BF on demand with no artificial nipples it has a very low failure rate. Many people think that if they nurse when the baby is hungry and use a pacifier to sooth baby or the baby's need to suck then it will work but you have to use NO artificial nips, No pumping and putting it in a bottle as the pump isn't as effective, etc

I used it with both my pregnancies, it's 98% effective if the child is under six months AND you are nursing at least every 4 hours during the day and every 6 hours at night.
I learned with my daughter that my cycle wouldn't resume until I started weaning, so here I am, my son is almost a year and I haven't had a period since August 2005. I'm definately weaning at a year tho, and I'm not looking forward to "being a woman" again. |
