With newborn poo you can just throw it in your washer and it washes right out. When the poop gets firmer you just dump it in the toilet (I'm lucky enough to have roll off the dipe poo) and then wash the dipe.
Also, not to start a cloth debate..but as far as the whole "poo in your washer" comment..what do you do when your sposies explode all over your kids clothes?

I have been fortunate to not have a "oopsie" yet on my daughter clothes. But when she does it will be hand washed it will NOT go in my washer. And seeing as though that oopsie might happend very rarely I can just hold my breath and stomach it to wash it by hand. I cuold not wash poopie diaper by hand everyday.

Newborn poo is thin and watery enough that it breaks down and just washes right out the drain. Anything thicker can't go in or you risk blocking up your drain.
Cori...I love my cloth! We used sposies while the kids were at my mum's for my surgery and then during the move and I was actually begging DH to hurry and hook up the washer and dryer so I could get the kids back in cloth dipes. I don't even mind the poop anymore!

so what do you do when your kid has a blow out and gets "****" on their clothes? my kids have to wear cloth....too many chemicals in the disposables give my kids rashes after 2-3 days. I even had to put them in cloth in the hospital because they started to get rashes. |

This is coming straight from my mum.
We washed diapers by hand, first soaked them in a bucket of soapy water then drained the "stuff" then rinsed them, then put them in the washing machine for a long soak. She also said, after my sister and myself, she switched to disposable because it was much easier. Also- as for the rashes and stuff from disposable.. you can get allergy free- with aloe- and they work great.

I was thinking of trying out some cd on Nathan. The disposables keep leaving diaper fuzz or something around his penis and I have accidentally pinched him trying to pick it off... poor baby. I'm just afraid that I'll be too lazy to deal with all of the ins and outs of using them. A friend of mine said that you have to use special laundry soap and everything so they don't get a build up on them or something. For the poop they also have diaper liners that "catch" the poo so you just dump it down the toilet and do your laundry like normal. I think the amount of poo that ends up in the washing machine is very minimal and nothing to really worry about. It all gets washed down the drain anyway, right? Just wash a load of whites with bleach afterward if you are really worried about any smells or anything
