    Grunting/straining

    Advertisements
My baby is 3 months old (and some change) -- he has recently started grabbing objects and mimicking my sounds .. but he's also developed this horrible grunt/straining sound that he does when he seems frustrated or tired. It's horrible and it makes it seem like he's so unhappy and annoyed. Is this normal? He's been doing it for the last hour and nothing I can do will comfort him.

Sounds like he picked up somewhere and likes to do that. Wyatt is still doing stuff like that at almost two. He thinks dogs say "bad dog" rather than woof woof I wouldn't be worried at all, sounds completely normal.

One of my nephews does this, too. He hardly cries anymore, just grunts.

Is he possibly gassy? Zach does it a lot when he's gassy, he's 7.5 weeks. If he has already burped and still doing it, we try bouncing him in the froggy position against our chest, 9 times out of 10 we get more burps out that way.

Thanks for replies ladies Nope - not gassy - it seems to be more of a frustration thing - like when he is trying desperately to grab a toy but can't quite get to it - but now he just does it all the time! It's almost taken the place of the cute little cries he made He must like to do it, maybe it sounds more effective to him?! lol

Ds did that for awhile! After awhile the novelty wore off and he moved to different noises.
