    Rash

    Advertisements
Earlier this week we noticed Cameron was getting a diaper rash. We started using diaper cream, but then we realized it wasn't a diaper rash. It started out on his inner thigh and was completely covered by his diaper, but now it is starting to spread down his legs and extends past the leg openings on his onesie. Have any of you guys seen a rash like this before? We have a weight check appointment on the 27th, but I kinda want to take him this week to have it looked it. It doesn't seem to bother/hurt him, though.

ETA: He hasn't had any new foods recently, either.

Has he had any solids? Could be a reaction from something he ate, if that's the case. Other than that, I'm not sure.

I forgot to add that. Yes, he's had solids, but he hasn't had any new foods in like...2 weeks? Honestly, it looks like a rash that DH got while he was in Iraq. He gets it on his hands. Could it be a yeast infection? I've never had one, so I have no idea what they look like...especially on a baby.

That doesn't look like yeast and I've been googling yeast rashes over the last day since I'm 99% certain Wyatt has his first. It's probably not new food, then. I don't know what the weather is like where you are but it almost looks like dry skin to me.

Looks like eczema. Try keeping his skin more protected from wetness by using some vasoline and see if it helps.

Did you change detergents or put new clothes on him recently?

It is pretty dry here. That dry skin patch was new this morning.

Do you still have it, or did it go away? I don't know anything about eczema.

Would coconut oil work? I can't use vaseline with his cloth diapers.

No. Same detergent, no new clothes. The only "new" thing is that he has been on the carpet more since he can Army crawl now. We vacuum more now, though.

I had to get cream for it from the dermatologist but it went away really quick after that. I've never had it since, that was in like... middle school, I think.

You can use vaseline or any cream/ointment if you stick a liner in there. If you have scrap fabric or something, that would work. Coconut oil will DEFINITELY keep his skin moisturized, though. Aveeno also makes an eczema specific cream for babies that my friend swears by.
