    Question Armpit Temp Question

    Advertisements
So in another thread I talked about DS haveing a fever. It went down but at 1:30 I took his temp (armpit) it was 98.6 = 99.6 and at 1:45 it was 98.9=99.9

So my question is should I take his rectal temperature to see his temp more accurate?

Yes, armpit isn't accurate at that age.

My thermometer says to do a rectal anytime you get 99 or above in the armpit.

We never did rectal temps, we have one of the temporal forehead thermometers for the whole family. I definitely wouldn't trust armpit temps when they're that young, though.

SO I took his rectal temp and it was 101.1. Should i call the doc or just keep an eye on him and control it with the pedia care?

Just keep up with the Tylenol, that's all a doctor's going to be able to do, too. Just make sure he's eating and wetting diapers.

He isn't himself. He is sleeping alot and when he is awake he is grumpy. He has had three wet diapers in the past hour.

That just sounds like a cold. They aren't crazy alert and active when they're sick - same as adults. If he's looking like something's wrong, I would take him in. If he had three wets in an hour, he's not dehydrated. It just sounds like a cold. Wyatt just came off of one for three days. I always kinda joke saying that he probably got it from a shopping cart because, really, they could pick it up anywhere. I hope he feels better soon for you!

And another thing is I have two diffrent thermometers ones a safty 1st and the other a redi-on they are giving me two diffrent reading.

These are the readings from each of them i did at the same time... ( I didnt add the degree extra your suppose to when doing the armpit)

    Safty 1st right 102.0 left 101.8
    RediOn right 100.9 left 100.8

    Which would you trust?
