    Are OHS Car seats Legal/useable?

I need some advice! I transport kids for visitations at work and one family has a very old car seat that I am not sure if its legal. After searching today with my friend for her new booster seat for her kiddo I realized that oh hey if I get pulled over or god forbid get into an accident with the kid in my car the last thing that should be a concern is his carseat. I think its from the 90's and I know plastic degrades over time. This is the car seat the foster parents transport him in all the time, so Im concerned. Before I bring it up to my boss though I want to get some clarification in case Im wrong. (I dont have kids and car seats are foreign objects to me)

This is what his looks like:

*photobucket is glitchy, i see it and then click on the link and it says pic moved. heres a link to the pic

I read online that these are dangerous because they can cause chest and abdominal injuries in a crash? Also if it is from the 90's Im assuming the plastic isnt as safe as it needs to be?

The other child is a bit older and he uses a booster which is also a concern for me as it is the old boosters (its backless---I do have head rests and I know if you do not have a head rest youre not supposed to use a backless seat? Can someone explain why?) with the bar in front as well. I cannot find a picture of it but its like the stage 3 booster seats without a back, but this one has a bar that goes across his lap.

Your picture isn't working. I believe that backless boosters are still used, though we won't be using one. Car seats are only good for 6 or 7 years-- the expiration date will be printed on the carseat itself.

Carseat last around 6-10 years depending on the type. I don't think you would get in trouble but the possibility for a wrack would scare me more then a ticket.
    New carseat is forsure needed!

The picture isn't showing up. Maybe you can gently bring it up and refer them to places where they can possibly get a donated car seat. Some health departments have free car seats and you just have to attend a class (this was when I was looking for a convertible seat for a client so it was more than just infant seats) that way they can learn about car safety and get a free seat at the same time.

The picture isnt working, I added a link. I dont think the stickers are still on it to check expiration. I know backless are used but i havent seen any with the bar that goes over the lap?

If it is from the 90's, it is well over 10 years old and expired. They need to replace it.

Have these been recalled or are they even safe/legal? I remember having one of these when I was a kid 23ish years ago. A wreck does scare me, I wouldnt forgive myself if I transported him and he got hurt in an unsafe seat. Im debating getting my own to have on hand but if this is what the foster parents use Im :nervous

I would refuse to transport without proper carseats. Bring information with you and have them go to a carseat specialist about it.

Oh my goodness, is that a tray? I have never seen that on a carseat-- I definitely don't think that is safe.
