DS has thrush. It just popped up this morning. We have Nystatin for him and the cream for me. Any tips for knocking it out quickly?

For yourself, change your nursing pads as much as possible or just go braless.

We've never had it so hopefully someone can come and give you more advice...

I hope it clears up soon.

Thanks! So far this is the only obstacle that we've encountered to breastfeeding so I'm hoping we can tackle it before it becomes a bigger problem.

I take probiotics every day and Alex has a bottle with probiotics every night. Neither of us has had thrush and I'm prone to yeast infections and also been on antibiotics once so far, so it seems to work to prevent it at least.

We're battling it right now too. Where did you get the cream for yourself?

When my DD got it she was about 3 months old. Luckily I wasn't breast feeding so I'm not sure on your end. Her doctor has us mix the nystatin w benadryl. It knocked her out but she wasn't in pain anymore. But you'd have to check w a professional on the dose. Good luck. Hope you feel better!

You have to see your doctor unfortunately.

This is the biggest and best piece of advice anyone could give you (Although I think she meant "boil" not "bool ).

Personally, since we were having to do the oral Nystatin 4x's a day for DS, after each dose, I would boil/sterilize everything his mouth came in contact with between that dose and the next. Also, make sure to use it until all the medicine is gone, or unless the pediatrician tells you otherwise. Thrush can be very stubborn and can take awhile to fully clear up. Also, be sure to be on the look out if at some point you or your DS have to take antibiotics (or when he gets his shots). Any time DS's immune system weakened, he got his thrush back, and likewise for me any time I took an antibiotic.

Also, as someone mentioned, change your breast pads frequently. Another big thing that helps is to let your breasts air out. (I know it's easier said than done when you're leaking ). But the moisture of being cooped up can sometimes irritate the thrush more.

DS and myself seriously had thrush 8 times between 3 weeks old and 9 months old and tried/did every possible treatment out there for it. If you have any questions, I'm more than happy to tell you what I know.

I hope it clears up quickly for both of you
