    Thumb Down Bad pediatrician advice

    Advertisements
This is a vent, but I put it here since it is new mommy related.

My friend Jeri posted her daughter's 2 month stats. A mutual friend posts back saying her son (also 2 months like Cameron and Leila) saying her son was 13 lbs 2 oz, and her doctor lectured her about feeding her son too much. Apparently the doctor told Aubree that if she keeps overfeeding her son like she's doing, he will get used to it, and he will grow up to be fat, so she needs to cut back on the amount she's feeding her baby.

SERIOUSLY?! What the hell is she supposed to do?? Not satisfy her child's hunger? I really, really hate when doctors say shit like this. All babies are different! Some are going to eat more than others. I would love to hear what that doctor has to say about my kiddo since he was 13 lbs 3 oz at his 2 month appointment. Which, by the way, Dr. G said was perfectly healthy.

    Okay. Vent over.

Wow! That sounds like a pretty healthy weight to me. I'm beyond shocked that the doctor would say that. As if this society doesn't already make everyone feel bad about their weight that the doctor had to say this toward a mother about her baby's weight wow just wow!

I am not a mom, but that is absolutely ridiculous. She is 2 months old! Feed the growing girl all she wants! Its not like shes feeding the kid junk food and soda.

You were correct Chels, this post is right up my alley!

I'm tempted to bring a small "normal" bottle and a hungry Teddy to our next appointment. Then I will hand him to the doc and say "have fun feeding him the recommended amount! See you later!" And I will walk out the door. And when I get back, the doc will be crying and most likely in a strait jacket

If 13lbs by 2 months is fat, I am screwed... Pretty sure Z is already over 9lbs at 2 weeks.

all babies are different! my child eats 6-7 oz every feeding and she JUST made 12 pounds the other day and is in the 30th percentile for her weight.

All I was thinking was "wow. Way to boost a first time mom's confidence by telling her she is going to make her child fat one day." Like we don't worry about screwing our kids up enough.
