Question Baby Sunscreen - need advice/education on it!

Is it safe to put sunscreen/sunblock lotion on a baby (6 months in my case)? Which do you recommend for super sensitive skin and which SPF? Is organic better than regular?

I did Google a bit but I am so uneducated on which one to chose and I want to protect my baby girl's skin. The sun/heat is ridiculous here in the South.

You're not supposed to put it on them till around 6months normally. I used the baby sun screen by Johnsons on DD when she was like 4 months old, but her doctor had said it should of been fine. I still use baby stuff on DD even though she's 4 years old now. I even use it on myself. Lol

Check out this website and look up any of the sunscreens you're interested in:

Skin Deep® Cosmetics Database | Environmental Working Group

It rates cosmetics, etc., for safety based on their ingredients. A lot of the "safest" are difficult to find locally, so you have to order them online, and/or they are really expensive if you're going to be using them frequently.

I decided to go with Water Babies PURE & SIMPLE (NOT the regular Water Babies) because it's rated 2 (0 is safest, on a scale of 10), I can buy it at Target or wherever, and it's inexpensive: Coppertone Water Babies Pure & Simple Sunscreen Lotion, SPF 50 || Skin Deep® Cosmetics Database | Environmental Working Group

I use California Baby natural and fragrance free. I prefer natural for all of us. No gunk on our systems.

I was just going to use whatever "baby" sunscreen I found at the store. Glad to know what brands are recommended!

Our pediatrician told us that small amounts sunscreen was fine for babies over 4 weeks. Ideally babies under 6 months should be kept out of the sun as much as possible, but where we live it's sunny pretty much year-round, so I suppose their reasoning is... tiny bits of sunscreen is the lesser of two evils.

For the most part, we keep our son (15 months) out of the sun. When we do swim, it's usually in the late afternoon/early evening.... and we still put him in an SPF 50 jumpsuit, a large-brimmed SPF 50 hat.... and put sunscreen on anything else showing. He is SOOOO fair-skinned, I don't want to risk a burn.

We use this stuff and have had really good luck with it:

I use any kind of baby sunscreen. I think what we have now is aveeno? Works just fine for us. Caden's doctor said the benefits of sunscreen outweigh the risks and that we can use it on him. He is 3.5 months old!
