    Temperatures

    Advertisements
DS has been crying a lot more today and has felt hot so we took a rectel temperature.

    99.4

At what point would you take your baby to the er?

I know I'm probably just over reacting since I'm a first time mommy and everything on google says to just watch it if he has a low grade fever, but 99.4 seems high to me!

The ER trip is only warrented if it is 104 or higher and you have tried to get it down with no luck. 99 is not really a temp at all to even be concerned about. That can be normal with some babies.

under 3 months old 101, or higher needs to be looked at. That is what we instruct our patients. Little newborns dont always have the means to control their body temp yet. Usually 6 mo or over is about 103-104 we suggest bringing them in.

    This is from Babycenter.com

"If your baby is under 3 months old and has a temperature of 100.4 degrees F (38 degrees C) or higher, call the doctor immediately. A baby this young needs to be checked for serious infection or disease.

If your baby is 3 months old or older, the most important thing is how he looks and acts.

If he appears well and is taking fluids, there's no need to call the doctor unless the fever persists for more than 24 hours or is very high. Ask your doctor for additional guidance: For example, the doctor may suggest calling right away if your baby's fever reaches 104 degrees, regardless of symptoms.

We just checked his temp again and it's the same, but he won't sleep! He's been up for 5 hours and he's been crying, he's ate, and he's just so upset but won't sleep. He's acting like he isn't feeling good.

He's probably just really overtired at this point.
I hope he calms down for you soon!
