Okay, this may turn into a novel so please forgive me if it does. I started out using sposies (disposables) when both of my kids were born. I still thought CDs (cloth diapers) were just pre-folds and pins like our moms used. When DS was around 6 months old I met some moms through a playgroup who used CD and started asking question. CDs nowadays are so cute and easy to use. And after working the numbers I figured out that I would spend around $2000 per child to put them in sposies until 2 1/2. Now between my 2 kids and their cloth stash I haven't even come close to spending half that.
Also, important to me was the chemicals that I was exposing my kids to in sposies. Silica gel is toxic. I think I read somewhere that a baby ingesting 1 tsp of silica gel can kill them. Now maybe I'm paranoid but that's not something I want around my kids most sensitive parts. Not to miss mentioning, but not as of big concern to me..sadly, is the environmental impact of disposables. Sposies can take up to 500 years to decompose. Not to mention the fact that each time you throw away a poopy sposie you put that poop in the landfill to be absorbed into the ground and into our water supply. When my kids poop in a CD I flush it into the toilet where it belongs. Now, I am not in any way bashing anyone that uses sposies. I know that CDing isn't right for everone. I love it though and it works great for us.

I love cloth....its nice to never "run out of diapers" just throw in a load of laundry. Cloth diapers are always nice and soft and never hard paper, they are darn cute! so many types and prints to choose from. I have yet to have one poop blow out in cloth diapers.
One of the best things...I have spent about 700$ diapering Alexander in the last 2 years and every one of those diapers is sitting on the changing table waiting for the new baby....700$ to diaper 2 kids untill potty learning is darn good if you ask me.

AMEN to that! I don't know how many times I've heard someone say..."I started CDing to save $$ but that went out the window"!

I have bought alot of mine used at www.diaperswappers.com For new the best place IMO is www.abbyslane.com She offers a layaway program and has the best customer service!
As far as washing, they do need to be washed seperate from your regular wash and you do wash them a little differently but it's not that hard.
