    Tricare covering baby after born?

    Advertisements
Sorry if this is already answered somewhere, I did a search and couldn't find it anywhere. I am due January 27th, and my husband is deployed. We are stationed in Mississippi but I am in Missouri to have baby. I am not near a military base. I was told that I needed to get her into see a pediatrician within a week of being born. I am confused on insurance. I was also told by a friend that all I needed to do was call DEERS and I have 30 days to send them a birth certificate and baby is on insurance. So, does this mean that the first pediatric appointment is not covered on insurance...that she won't even have insurance then. I am trying to find a pediatrician but I don't know if I need to tell them I have TriCare or we will be paying out of pocket. Thanks in advance for any help.

They will back date your coverage... But I would suggest going to a different site in the meantime. PM Chevy_Gurl.

I just had my son in December and I was told that your baby is automatically enrolled in Tricare for 60 days, however, you have to have them entered into DEERS, you need a birth certificate and social security card. After that, you can enroll them in Tricare by either going to Tricare office or online.

I do suggest you make sure your doctors office bills Tricare. Nothing that I had done for my son so far, his 2 pediatrician appointments and circumsions were covered becuase they didn't bill Tricare, so I actually had to call and have them bill them.

    Good luck with your baby!
