I had it done when I was in.... 9th grade? They'll probably make him drink a barium.. sulfite? mixture and scan him in a cat scan or something.

A friend I had has a son that had this done. At this step, no, I don't believe so. If they want to do further testing like to test the acidity of the stomach. Yes.

I think as long as they can get the barium stuff down then no, they won't have to.

And the no eating thing stinks, I had mine at like 10 in the morning or something so I just didn't eat after dinner. Being that young, though, it is kinda scary.

I think it's hard on the parents, too. Especially when the child is young, too, ya know? Blah. Being a young kid and having to go through and being a mother WITH a young kid and going through it, equally NOT fun. Sorry for you both.

It's not fun to see. I found out I may have the same problem that her son did. And I may very well have to do that test. Young children only have to suffer through it for 24 hours. I have to do it for 48 or more. Having a tube stuck through your nose into your stomach does not sound fun. Does your son spit up a lot? Is that the problem? That's what my old friend's son did. He ended up having laparoscopic surgery on his esophagus. He can never throw up again, but, no more spitting up. The problem is that the esophagus doesn't want to close properly. Just stays open. It's no fun.
