Question about cord blood banking - New Moms

I just found out that we are having a baby, but I thought this was important to look into now, especially since it can get very expensive. I am considering cord blood banking, since new studies have shown that cord blood stem cells can be used in treatments for many different types of illnesses/diseases, especially leukemia and brain injury. I wanted to know if anyone on here has done cord blood banking, how much it cost (if you are willing to share that information, of course) and if you would recommend it to other moms?

We looked into it with the last baby but the pregnancy got so crazy and hectic we didn't. After getting diagnosed with cancer we are definitely doing it with this baby. It was at least a couple grand, but they have payment plans etc. Then its a yearly fee to keep it stored. It's not cheap at all.

We looked into it, and even asked our dr about it. Talk to your dr. see what they say. Our dr. told us its good to have incase of an emergency occurs. but its very expensive..
We didnt do it, we just couldnt afford it.

We didn't have the money for it. The Children's hospital in St. Louis lets you donate it to them for free. We ended up doing that. They would keep it until they found a match. I figured it would be a nice thing for someone since they would just throw it away otherwise.

DH really wants to do it. He makes the point that even though it's expensive now, if there's an emergency and we don't have it and could've used it, then we'll regret not doing it. I agree with him, but I'm not sure if we can drop that kind of money just now. I told him there's always baby #2, but we don't know when that'll happen.

We didn't, out Dr told uw that if we have a second kid it would be better to do it with that one, I didn't really get the reasoning

We couldn't have afforded it anyway!
