Question
Please don't flame. I have no children but my MIL is asking me if its okay to give kids benadryl to help sleep when they are not sick.
Apparently my SIL is doing this. One lady I nannied for told me to do it too, but I just changed her sleeping times and the child was fine without it. My MIL doesn't think its okay and I don't either, i feel like its medicating when not needed, but then again I have in the past required sleeping pills. Please dont turn this into a mean debate or anything, just want advice, medically or not, I dont really know what to tell her. Apparently my SIL found a website saying its okay based on dosage and is not habit forming. Anyways I dont really beleive it but could be wrong. |

I don't have kids either but I was a nanny to 5 rambunctious kids for a long time. As much as I would want to give them benadryl or sleeping pills I'd never do that.
Its completely unnecessary and I just don't feel that its safe to medicate a child when they don't need it.
