    Help SKin tags

    Advertisements
My friend just had a baby daughter, she is 8 days old today and she has a skin tag by her ear. She wants to have it removed now by a dermatologist b/c she doesn't want her DD to be made fun of when she's older. Have you experienced this...what's ur opinion? I've read that it can be related to other genetic issues.

I've had skin tags removed.... it's really not a big deal at all.

I'm not sure about it being related to other genetic issues.... but I know they can be a sign of PCOS. I don't think it'd show that early in a baby though

Hunter was born with a skin tag next to one of his nipples and they removed it when he was still in the hospital.

When I was born and adopted, I was labeled as "physically deformed". Because of skin tags.

I have never seen photos of myself as an infant (sore subject, Mom refuses to show them to me) but I had extensive plastic surgery at around three months old. It involved my ears somehow - I no longer have a tragus on my left ear as a result of the surgery.

In short, having the surgery as an infant is fine.

I'd rather have it done as an infant than later. If she gets it done now the baby won't remember it. If she waits the baby will remember.

My daughter had a skin tag right next to her ear also. I had it removed by a plastic surgeon when she was around 16 months old. Its no big deal. I was terrified though. The surgery was a piece of cake. Literally 10 minutes. If you have any more question please feel free to PM me. I would be glad to talk to your friend about it.

Thanks so much ladies. She is very upset, no doubt, but she feels like she did something to cause this. They are worried that the surgery will leave a scar but they'd rather have a scar than the tag itself.

I have to look really hard to even see Bailey's scar right now. But. I would take her to a plastic surgeon. Not a dermatologist.
