    swollen after shots..

    Advertisements
Maddox's leg is swollen about the size of an apple or orange from his shot..

I called the DR and they said put ice on it but I put a cold rag on it and it didn't help.

He's been crying non stop for the past 45 mins. I already gave him all the pain relief I can give.. She said if he doesn't stop crying to take him to the ER.. Said he could have a bad reaction

I don't want to do that because I know they'll just check it and send us on our way and it's friday night so EVERYONE will be in the ER and we'll be waiting allll night.

Anyone know anything I can do? I wanna try everything before taking him to the ER

You can try the ice - or you can use a bag of frozen peas or the like - it's a little easier on a little's skin.

Try elevating the leg - is the area hard? Hot to touch? Red?

(I'm a pedi nurse - and I can help (I think!) if you can describe it to me a little more)

if its the size of an apple or orange, take him in.

i think he would be given a higer priority if its swollen that much, and even if you do wait. its for his health and well being.

I would try a lukewarm bath as well. D gets really bad knots on his legs when he gets shots too, but not that bad. Try a bath and the ice (not at the same time) but I would take him in if he doesn't improve really soon. I know the ER sucks and they don't do anything for you a lot of the time, but they tend to take things with babies much more seriously.

I would take him in. That is huge for a baby. Hayden had shots today and he didn't have that reaction, nor as he ever. He could have an allergic reaction to one of the shots he had.

and if he's allergic to it, he needs to get medical attention ASAP.
