    Question Honey?

    Advertisements
Someone just told me to try rubbing honey on Hayden's gums and it can help to ease the pain of teething. I thought honey was toxic to babies under the age of 1? I have never heard of doing that before.

Never give babies honey. It can make them really sick.

Do NOT give him honey right now, he's way too young. You're not supposed to give them honey until they are at least 2.

It's very dangerous if they have an allergy.

That's what I thought, but I figured I'd ask anyways.

If you want to rub anything on it, try baby orajel... not honey.

honey can give her botulism ( sp?) which will make her sick. Like Sarah said not till they are at least 2 should you give honey. Orajel or hyland teething tablets would be better.

    I will miss you SOS...
Please be wary of what you post remember OPSEC is not just another acronym.

Baby orajel doesn't work for him, but we have teething tablets that usually do the trick.

He would probably love that waffle way too much.

Honey is dangerous because it carries traces of botulism. Adults are able to fight it off due to the fact that it is such a small amount, but babies are unable to deal with it as we do.

It's not so much the honey allergy as it is the potential for a botulism infection. Sometimes honey contains a small amount of botulism spores, which adult immune systems can deal with, but babies cannot.
