Should I take him to the ER? *Update post #24*

Matt just woke up and he's burning up. He has a fever of 102.1. He's acting very lethargic, he's stuffed up and is being very clingy. When I put him down an hour and a half ago he was fine and now he's just so hot! Should I give him tylenol and wait or go ahead and go to the hospital?

He also cut his second tooth today. I don't think that's it but I thought I'd mention it.

I would Take him NOW! Our urgent care here says if you're child hits 101.5 fever to take them in. And that's for a toddler. You should definitely take him in or at least call your Emergency room. You can't ever be too careful. That is a high fever!

Hun, I think its one of those things--- if you feel like you need to take him, you should go. Thats a pretty sudden onset for a fever-- and pretty high, too. Maybe just take him for peace of mind?

a temperature can TOTALLY be due to teething! can you call your pediatrician and talk to someone who's on call just to make sure?

    I would definitely take him.

I wouldn't have thought twice. Especially since the fever came on so quickly.

my doc says if it's under like 102.5 to not worry about it.. just tylenol, keep an eye on them and a cool bath. but if you feel like you should take him in, then do it. it can't hurt any.

Umm...I would have taken him- he's so tiny and that's a high fever. But at the same time, I would be nervous about him catching something worse from someone else who is at the ER.

oh, and just to add - you need to help him break the fever. have you given him tylenol before? keeping him covered in just a light sheet is a good too, bc you don't want him to get cold, and since babies can't shiver - its hard to know.

my stepmom was a NICU RN for years and years, and this just happened to my best friend when her son started teething, and i talked her through the advice. but like the others said, if you want to take him in for your own peace of mind i certainly think you should.
