    Help BF- Pump questions

    Advertisements
ok ladies i need some help, ok to start with i am bf my son and hes almost six weeks old and i do want to stop but with these issues my dh keeps asking when he is going to go on formula. well he only asked once but still...

ok to start with how do you know if the breast sheilds pn your pump are too big and if so how do you know what size to get? i ask because this last week i have mostly been pumping cuz my nipples were little sore and now they are horrible could my pump be doing it?

also i have been pumping because last week we thought baby was spitting up blood and somthing was horribly wronge with him and in actuality he is somhow making me bleed. its weird though its like its coming from in me not from a sore. but when i pumo its not red or anything

ok i think that is it for now. o the pump i have is the "miPump" made by the first years.
any advice will be greatly apriciated i really dont want to stop bf !!

I would just try some smaller shields also are you using any cream on your nipples? My nipples cracked and bled when I pumped; you gotta remember it's just a very tender area.

Sounds like your nipples are damaged? You can apply lanolin to them after you nurse, and when the baby is done eating just leave your breasts out to dry a little before putting a pad or your bra back on them. As for the breast pump, I am not really sure because I don't use one.

Have you talked to your doctor or a lactation consultant? Maybe they can be of help? When I first starting pumping, I had a horrible time with sore nipples. Turned out I had the wrong size shields (the ones I had were too small). I just went up to the next size. I have the Lansinoh Double Electric pump and it's great since I got the right size shields.

May be worth it to see a lactation specialist. I needed bigger shields. I also found the hospital grade pump worked so much better for me (what little time I BF'd).

The pumping can make your nipples very sore and can cause bleeding. It will not hurt your child to BF if your nipples are bleeding. It is very miniscule amounts.

I would contact a lactation consultant or your nearest La Leache Leauge and ask for a little help/visit. You do not have to stop BF or switch to formula, unless that is what you want to do.

ok thank you ladies for your support and those of you who said they needed to switch to diferent pump sheild how do you determine if you need to or not?

today was alot better than yesterday my nips seem to be getting a little bit better we nursed a couple of times and i think me being kinda ocd about the lansinoh cream has also helped.
